Abstract: In this work we study the dynamics of a cardiac myocyte (muscle cell) action potential model formulated on the basis of experimental data obtained from guinea pigs by Luo & Rudy in 1994 (Luo-Rudy 94 model). The model consists of a system of nonlinear differential equations that are based on the Hodgkin-Huxley equations. We study the dynamical activity of a cardiac myocyte by investigating the role of each current in the generation of the action potential. The investigation focuses on the dynamic changes of calcium and potassium currents and how varying each current affects the action potential. We employ the software XPP with a choice of Runge-Kutta method to numerically solve the system and also perform bifurcation analyses using the software package AUTO.
