Abstract: There are classical results characterizing topological spaces X such that the space of continuous functions C(X) endowed with pointwise convergence belongs to a specified class of locally convex spaces. For instance, C(X) is bornological (or Mazur) iff X is realcompact. Various generalizations will be discussed. For some X, the characterizations are related to measurable cardinals
