The typical view about
endomorphism rings is that they are studied subsequent to the modules which
generate them. In my presentation, I will attempt to revert this view (making
"the tail wag the dog"). Thus, I will present a survey of
module-theoretic properties, obtained via the endomorphism ring. These
properties include injectivity and its various generalizations, nonsingularity
of different kinds, Baer and
Rickart properties, module-theoretic von Neumann regularity, and others.
This presentation is based on work with G. Lee and S.T. Rizvi.
