Abstract: We say that a topological space is pi-metrizable if it has a sigma-discrete pi-base and that it is weakly pi-metrizable if it has a sigma disjoint pi-base. I will share some of my work on this topic as it relates to products, mappings, dense subspaces, groups, remainders and the Baire property. In particular I will find a representation for each space as the image of a pi-metrizable space under an open mapping (and as a weakly pi metrizable space under an open perfect mapping), examine the question of when some power of a space is pi-metrizable and look at which properties of metrizable spaces can be generalized to (weakly) pi-metrizable spaces.
