Just as commutative algebra is the language of Algebraic Geometry, Tropical Algebras are the underpinnings of Tropical Geometry which might loosely be described as a piece-wise linear or skeletonized version of algebraic geometry. The adjective tropical is given in honor of the Brazilian mathematician Imre Simon, who pioneered the field. It simply reflects the French view on Brazil (as it was coined by a Frenchman). Beyond that, it has no deeper meaning. This lecture is the second and last in a series that started on October 20th. While the first lecture introduced the foundations of the theory of Tropical and Supertropical algebras, this second part will focus on the theory of matrices over such algebras. A video for the first lecture may be seen at http://tcs1.rhe.ohiou.edu/tcs/?id=7EE1B631-B3FD-4429-8CCF-3CA7E6B56987 but be advised that since that was a two hour lecture, the file is a bit slow to download.
