Department hosts Glidden Professor in Spring, 2010
Olga Januškevičienė will be our Robert and Rene’ Glidden Visiting Professor in spring, 2010.
Professor Olga Januškevičienė will join the Department of Mathematics as Robert and Rene’ Glidden Visiting Professor in Spring Quarter, 2010. She is a senior researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (Vilnius, Lithuania) and a full professor at Vilnius Pedagogical University. In addition, Olga has been recently appointed an advisor to the Department of Education of the Russian Federation and an associate editor of the text-book in progress for Russian secondary schools entitled “Foundations of Orthodox Christian Culture”. Professor Januškevičienė has authored and co-authored numerous research papers and monographs, as well as text-books in statistics, probability and education. Olga Januškevičienė holds Hab. Doctorate (or “super-doctorate”) degree in statistics and probability from the Lithuanian Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Vilnius, M.Sc. from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University), and B.Ed. from Moscow Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of Humanities. Dr. Januškevičienė has recently held a postdoctoral appointment in education at Moscow State Pedagogical University. Her Doctor of the Pedagogical Sciences (or “super-doctorate in education”) degree is expected in December, 2009. Professor Olga Januškevičienė will assist us in the development and delivery of the new double-listed course MATH4/554 “Introduction to the Theory of Estimation”, conduct joint research with Mathematics faculty members and present a lecture entitled “Applications of Stable Distributions” to the general community. In addition, she will lead several discussion groups with education majors about pedagogical practices and the underlying philosophy of education in Eastern Europe. Olga will also visit local schools.
