Alexander Arhangelskii named Distinguished Professor
Professor Alexander Arhangelskii has been named an Ohio University Distinguished Professor. The Distinguished Professor award is considered to be the highest academic honor bestowed on Ohio University faculty. Each year the University elects only one faculty member on whom to bestow this honor.
Distinguished Professors are chosen based on outstanding artisitic, literary, historical or scientific achievements, or other worthy accomplishments attaining wide recognition. Nominated faculty members must have tenure and a minimum of five years of service to Ohio University. The Distinguished Professor award carries a lifetime designation that recognizes scholarly accomplishment, professional reputation and contributions to the university.
Faculty in a wide variety of disciplines, from the natural sciences to fine arts, have received this award. Recipients are rewarded with one quarter of professional leave and the privilege of naming one student annually to receive a Distinguished Professor Scholarship.
Arhangelskii is the second Mathemtaics faculty to receive the honor of Distinguished Professor in recent years. Professor S.K. Jain was given the honor in 1999.
