Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics

The B.A. degree is recommended for students who want to pursue a broad or liberal arts education with a concentration in the mathematical sciences; have plans for future education or employment in an interdisciplinary area; or desire a double major in mathematics and some other field.

Program Requirements

  1. For a B.A. in Mathematics, a student must complete a total of 44 credit hours at or above the 200-level.
  2. The courses must include:
    1. All of the following (28 hours):
      •  MATH 211 - Elementary Linear Algebra (or MATH 410 - Matrix Theory)
      • MATH 263A-D - Calculus I-IV (or MATH 266A,B and MATH 263C,D)
      • MATH 308 - Discrete Math 
      • MATH 350 - Probability
    1. At least one of the following:
      •  MATH 307 - Introduction to Number Theory 
      • MATH 314 - Elementary Abstract Algebra
      • MATH 411 - Linear Algebra
      • MATH 470 - Complex Variables
    1. At least 2 MATH courses at the 400-level. (May use 411 or 470 to fulfull both B. and C..)
