Fall 2005 MATH 306 Foundations of Mathematics, Section 02

Section 02 meets Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 11:10am - noon in Morton 322.

My office hours are 10:00-11:00 and 1:00-2:00 Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri in Morton 538.

Students from all sections of Math 306, not just section 02, are welcome to come to my office hours.

Classroom Group Work

Chapter 1 of the textbook discusses quantified statements. We did classroom group work drills involving constructing true quantified mathematical statements from a shuffled stack of cards containing sentence fragments.

Chapter 10 of the textbook discusses relations. In section 10.2, we are introduced to three special properties that a relations on a set may or may not have: Reflexivity, Symmetry, and Transitivity. This group work presents eight relations on the set of real numbers, and asks the students to determine which properties each relation has.
