    • The exam is cumulative
    • Section 9.3 will not be covered on the Final Exam.

    • The topics for the final exam are
      1. Graphing using transformations.
      2. Matching a polynomial or rational function to its graph.
      3. Computing a derivative using the Chapter 4 derivative rules (Linearity, Power, Product, Quotient, Chain).
      4. Finding the equation for the line tangent to the graph of a given function at a given point.
      5. Determining regions of increase/decrease, relative max/min, regions of concavity, and inflection points.
      6. Determining marginal cost, marginal revenue, or marginal profit. (You will need to know these terms!)
      7. Finding absolute extrema on a closed interval. (This might be a word problem or a business problem.)
      8. Finding a simple partial derivative two ways:
         • Using derivative rules (using the "informal definition" of the partial derivative)
         • Using the definition of the partial derivative (using the "formal definition" of the partial derivative).
      9. Finding a harder partial derivative using the derivative rules.
      10. Finding higher-order partial derivatives.

      • Please don't sit in Row R
      • No calculators, notes, or other reference materials.
      • Exam is ten problems.
        • On problems [1]-[6], you don't need to show work. For these problems, you can do your work on the back of the page.
        • On problems [7]-[10], you do need to show work.
        • On problem [8], you must use calculus. No credit for just trying a few values of x and y and guessing where the maximum occurs.
      • Exam ends at 10:00. Please bring your exam to one of the proctors at the end of the exam. (We will not come to you: too crowded!) Exams not in the box by 10:05am will not be graded.
