COURSE CONTENT:

An introduction to mathematical thinking and formal proofs.

Topics include sets, relations and functions.

TEXTBOOK:

Discrete Mathematics with Applications, by Susanna Epp, third edition.

PREREQUISITES:

Math 263A or Math 163B.

GRADING:

There will be two quizzes worth 10% each, two tests worth 20% each, and a final exam worth 35% of your final mark. The class participation is worth 5%. The quizzes and the tests (normally) will be at class time. Final grades will be determined from the following scale: 85+  A,  70+  B,  55+  C,  40+  D.

CHEATING:

Don't. The penalty may be an F for the course.

ATTENDANCE:

Strongly recommended.

HOMEWORK:

The homework assignments will be posted at http://www.math.ohiou.edu/~vardges/math306/homework.html.
Homework assignments will not be collected and graded, but you will be responsible for quiz and test items similar to homework problems, and some of the problems on the tests and quizzes may literally be the homework problems previously assigned to you.
