COURSE CONTENT:
Introduction to discrete mathematical structures and their applications. The main topics are graph theory and counting techniques.
Applications include discrete and network optimization, discrete probability, game theory and voting systems.
TEXTBOOK:
Discrete Mathematics with Applications, by Susanna Epp, third edition.
PREREQUISITES:
Math 211 or Math 263A and not CS300.
GRADING:
There will be two quizzes worth 10% each, two tests worth 20% each, and a final exam worth 35% of your final mark. The class participation is worth 5% .
The quizzes and the tests (normally) will be at class time.
Final grades will be determined from the following scale: 85+ A, 70+ B, 55+ C, 40+ D.
CHEATING:
Don't. The penalty may be an F for the course.
ATTENDANCE:
Strongly recommended.
HOMEWORK:
The homework assignments will be
posted at http://www.math.ohiou.edu/~vardges/math308/homework.html.
Homework assignments will not be collected and graded, but you will be
responsible for quiz and test items similar to homework problems, and some of
the problems on the tests and quizzes may literally be the homework problems
previously assigned to you.
